‘He was a great boss': Beloved garage shop manager has it with corporate, takes matters into his own hands using ugly brown paint, gets corporate to give him his way

A good boss stands up for their employees and establishment. It can be a hard battle, because a good boss wants what's best for his people on the ground, but corporate wants what's best for their investors and stocks. And sometimes that means making things worse for the employees and shop.

 

This boss was respected and well liked. He ran a popular transmission garage. He not only cared about the well-being of his employees, but also the well-being of his establishment. That's why when the paint job started to crumble, he requested a new one. Corporate ignored him and kept telling him it was fine, when it very obviously wasn't. Eventually, they told him he could paint it himself if he hated it so badly. So, he did just that. Except, he chose an even worse paint job. Corporate was so mad about it, but their contract made it so it was all their fault. Eventually, because of this malicious compliance, corporate gave this boss what he wanted.

  • Jim.went to the paint store and bought several gallons of the cheapest, ugliest brown paint he could find and paid us out of pocket to paint the outside.

  • I mean, this was the color of shit. Then, he waited. Sure enough, two weeks later corporate called in a huff.

  • The shop is supposed to be red, white, and blue! Jim reminded them he was allowed to paint the shop at his own expense.

  • They never said what color. Within a week after that, a crew was sent out and we had a pretty, new paint job.

  • It's not always a win win situation, but here we get pretty close. Corporate might have lost the argument, but the overall outcome helped everyone involved. That's why a good boss is not just great for the employees, but the corporation overall. It's about time these higher ups realize that!
